Thousands of commuters and residents along the Abuja–Keffi corridor may soon experience improved travel conditions as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to complete ongoing road rehabilitation and expansion projects linking the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with Nasarawa State.
During an inspection of key road projects in the corridor, the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded on the reconstruction and expansion of the 43.65-kilometre Mararaba–Keffi Road, describing the pace and quality of work as encouraging.
The Abuja–Keffi highway remains one of the busiest routes serving residents of Abuja and neighbouring communities in Nasarawa State, with thousands relying on the road daily for work, business, education, and other economic activities.
Umahi also inspected the ongoing emergency rehabilitation of the Mararaba–Keffi Road on the Abuja-bound carriageway and commended the contractor handling the project for maintaining quality standards.
According to the Minister, the Federal Government is determined to ensure that critical transport infrastructure serving the FCT and surrounding states is completed on schedule to ease traffic congestion, improve safety, and boost economic activities.
He stressed that contractors must adhere strictly to approved specifications while ensuring that all outstanding sections are completed before embarking on additional asphalt works.
The Minister noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to delivering durable infrastructure that will improve the quality of life of Nigerians and support long-term economic development.
Lawmakers who accompanied the inspection described the road projects as vital to improving connectivity between Abuja and communities across Nasarawa and the wider North-Central region.
They noted that the projects would facilitate easier movement of people and goods, reduce travel time, and support commercial activities along the busy transport corridor.
Also speaking during the inspection, the Federal Controller of Works in the FCT, Engr. Mohammed Usman, commended the steady progress recorded on the projects and expressed confidence that the roads would significantly improve transportation within the FCT and adjoining states upon completion.
The ongoing works form part of the Federal Government’s broader infrastructure drive aimed at modernising major road networks and enhancing mobility for residents and businesses across the North-Central zone.
