The Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Samuel Shekwolo, has threatened residents who may not support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
In a video circulating on social media, Shekwolo told residents who were unwilling to support the ruling party to leave the area council.
The council chairman said his position was informed by what he described as the developmental efforts of President Bola Tinubu and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Kuje Area Council.
“I have said in my area council, it’s either you are doing APC or leave the area council; I’m not hiding that. With confidence, I’m saying it,” Shekwolo said.
He further explained that he could not support residents who would allegedly oppose the APC at the polls despite what he described as the contributions of the President and the FCT Minister to the development of the area.
“You know why, I cannot have President and Minister doing what they are doing and on the day of election, you will want to match me. It’s either you are with us, or you are out,” he added.
The remarks have generated reactions, with concerns being raised over the implication of asking residents to leave the area council based on their political preference ahead of the 2027 elections.
As of the time of filing this report, the FCT Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the council chairman’s remarks.
The 2027 general elections are expected to feature intense political activities across the country as political parties begin preparations for the polls.
