The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has commended Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her commitment to empowering vulnerable citizens through initiatives aimed at promoting economic inclusion and self-reliance.
Mahmoud gave the commendation on Saturday during the empowerment of 1,000 petty traders in Karon Majigi, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), where beneficiaries received financial assistance and business support tools under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
The programme, organised by the Office of the First Lady, forms part of ongoing efforts to alleviate poverty, strengthen livelihoods, and expand economic opportunities for women, persons with disabilities, and small-scale entrepreneurs across the country.
Speaking at the event, the Minister described the initiative as a practical expression of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises social inclusion, economic empowerment, and improved welfare for all Nigerians.
She noted that the intervention underscores the Federal Government’s determination to ensure that vulnerable groups, particularly persons living with disabilities, are fully integrated into the nation’s socio-economic development process.
According to Mahmoud, empowering disadvantaged citizens goes beyond charity and represents a strategic investment in human capital and sustainable national growth.
She praised Senator Oluremi Tinubu for what she described as her compassion, visionary leadership, and unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes, adding that her interventions continue to restore hope and dignity to thousands of Nigerians.
“The empowerment of persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups is not merely a charitable gesture but a strategic investment in human capital and sustainable national development,” she said.
The Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Administration to implementing policies and programmes that promote accessibility, equal opportunities, and active participation of persons with disabilities in governance and development.
She also encouraged beneficiaries to utilise the support provided to expand their businesses, improve their livelihoods, and contribute positively to their communities.
On behalf of the FCT Administration, Mahmoud expressed appreciation to the First Lady for extending practical support to vulnerable residents of the territory and prayed for continued strength and guidance in her service to the nation.
Earlier, former FCT APC Women Leader, Mrs. Hailmary Aipoh, lauded the First Lady for her generosity and sustained efforts towards improving the welfare of women, families, and vulnerable Nigerians.
She expressed optimism that the empowerment package would help beneficiaries grow their businesses and achieve greater economic stability.
