Power Supply to FCT Environs Disrupted as TCN Towers Collapse

By Becky Momodu

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the disruption of electricity supply to customers connected to the Keffi and Akwanga transmission substations following the collapse of three transmission towers along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV line corridor.

TCN said Towers T78, T79 and T80 collapsed at about 4:06pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during rainy and windy conditions, causing the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line to trip on overcurrent relay protection.

According to the company, investigations conducted after the trip confirmed that the three transmission towers had collapsed, prompting engineers to isolate the affected section for safety.

The incident has rendered all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga Transmission Substations unavailable.

TCN explained that no load could be nominated on the affected feeders until the situation was addressed, potentially affecting electricity customers supplied through the two substations.

The company said its engineers were already at the site assessing the extent of the damage and determining the materials and other requirements needed to commence restoration work.

TCN regretted the inconvenience caused to electricity customers by the incident, assuring affected communities that efforts were underway to complete the necessary repairs and restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible.

The transmission company also said it would continue to provide updates as restoration activities progress.
