Umahi Urges Nigerians to Back Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid, Cites Infrastructure Drive

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged Citezens to support President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, citing the administration’s infrastructure development efforts and economic reforms.

Umahi made the call on Tuesday during a town hall meeting at the Coronation Hall in Kano State, ahead of the commissioning of major road projects on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

He described the Federal Government’s removal of petroleum subsidy and other economic policy decisions as difficult but necessary steps towards repositioning the country for sustainable growth and prosperity.

According to him, the impact of the reforms is increasingly evident in development initiatives and infrastructure projects being executed across the country.

“The worst is over. The darkest part of the morning is the dawn. We are moving into prosperity as a result of the hard decisions occasioned by the reforms,” he said.

The Minister urged Nigerians to remain patient and support the administration, arguing that continuity in leadership would help consolidate the gains of the ongoing reforms and sustain infrastructure development.

He also called on the people of Kano State to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for a second term, commending his leadership, inclusiveness and efforts to promote peace, unity and development.

Umahi praised the cleanliness of Kano, describing the state as an example of the environmental sanitation standards Nigerians deserved.

“I am yet to see another State that is beating Kano in cleanliness. In all the streets we passed through, you could pick a pin,” he said.

He attributed the state’s orderliness to purposeful leadership and the effective use of public resources, while commending Yusuf for bringing together political leaders, former governors, prominent indigenes and other stakeholders.

The Minister also advocated greater opportunities for engineers to occupy leadership positions, noting that their technical expertise, professional knowledge and problem-solving abilities could improve governance and infrastructure delivery.

He reaffirmed the South-East’s commitment to national unity and the Tinubu administration, dismissing the perception that the region was politically opposed to the President.

Earlier, Governor Yusuf thanked the Federal Government for its infrastructure interventions, particularly the road projects expected to improve transportation, economic activities and connectivity across Kano State and the North-West.

He described the scheduled commissioning of outstanding works on Section I, Lot 1 (Zaria-Kano) of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway as a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure development.

The governor expressed appreciation to Tinubu for the projects and other support extended to Kano State, expressing optimism about a successful commissioning ceremony.

The Federal Ministry of Works reaffirmed its commitment to delivering durable, safe and quality road infrastructure across the country under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda rn
