The Nigeria Shooting Sport Federation (NSSF) has unveiled its National Integrated Shooting Sport Portal as the Army War College Nigeria hosted a pistol and rifle precision shooting competition in Abuja.
The portal was launched on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, alongside the Army War College Nigeria Course 10 Shooting Competition held at the 1212 Polo Turf Club Shooting Range, Gwarimpa, Abuja.
Representing the President of NSSF, Commodore Mohammed Sagir Shettima, the Federation’s 2nd Vice President, Abubakar Aliyu, said the portal marked a significant milestone in the federation’s efforts to digitalise shooting sport and broaden participation across Nigeria.
He urged organisations, clubs, athletes and individuals interested in shooting sport to register through the federation’s official website and formally join the shooting community.
According to him, shooting sport is a globally recognised competitive discipline, stressing the need for Nigeria to strengthen its structures and participation in the sport.
The Chief Executive Officer of Obetek Technologies Limited, NSSF’s technology partner, Mr Abdultalib Musa, said the new portal would provide a central platform for registration, affiliation, accreditation, capacity building and competition management in line with international best practices.
The technical session was led by NSSF ICT representative, Jovita Nwanaforo, and streamed live to a global audience.
The launch coincided with the Army War College Nigeria Course 10 Pistol and Rifle Precision Shooting Competition, which attracted participants from the Nigerian military and para-military organisations, affiliated bodies, the media, as well as military personnel from South Africa and other African countries.
The Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, and the Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria, Major General UM Alkali, attended the twin events and featured in novelty shooting activities involving both rifle and pistol series.
During the competition, participating teams competed against the Army War College team in sniping, prone, kneeling and standing positions, engaging designated targets with .22 pistol and rifle firearms while navigating designated obstacles.
Before the commencement of the events, Major General Alkali led participants in a minute of silence in honour of the victims of the recent Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had declared three days of national mourning following the incident and directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased, as investigations into the crash continue.
The NSSF said the newly launched portal would strengthen the coordination and management of shooting sport in Nigeria while creating more opportunities for athletes, clubs and other stakeholders to participate in the discipline.
