The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), in collaboration with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has donated medical supplies and equipment to Wuse General Hospital in Abuja to strengthen healthcare delivery.

The intervention forms part of an ongoing partnership between the two agencies, under which Kuje and Asokoro General Hospitals have also benefited from similar donations.

The Director of FEMD, Engr. Mohammad Dikko, represented by the Deputy Director, Administration Department, Mohammed Usman Boyi, said the donation aligned with the department’s commitment to promoting health and safety in the Federal Capital Territory.

Also speaking, the Deputy Director and Head of Relief and Rehabilitation at FEMD, Hajia Fatima Ibrahim, said the intervention followed the recognition of the hospital’s urgent need for medical support.

She explained that the collaboration with NIMASA had enabled the provision of medical equipment, drugs and other essential supplies to address some of the facility’s needs.

Receiving the items, the Chief Medical Director of Wuse General Hospital, Dr. Hannatu Ovosi, expressed appreciation to both agencies, noting that the hospital faced several challenges but was making efforts to overcome them.

She said the donation would help address some of the hospital’s pressing needs and improve services to patients.

The hospital’s Secretary, Crown Ajayi O. A., described the intervention as timely, adding that the supplies would ease the workload of healthcare workers and improve their working conditions.

“You people brought almost the basic needs of the hospital, and it will go a long way to make our staff work with ease and with a level of satisfaction,” he said.

Ajayi urged other organisations to emulate FEMD and NIMASA by supporting healthcare facilities.

Items donated include electrocardiogram (ECG) machines, portable suction machines, examination couches, wheelchairs, hospital beds, drugs, trolleys, delivery kits, bedside lockers, autoclaves, blood pressure monitors, blood sugar testing kits and other essential medical supplies.
