The Abuja Children’s Home, Karu, is set to overcome longstanding transportation challenges following the handover of two refurbished buses by the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
The vehicles, which had remained grounded for some time, were refurbished and presented to the home to improve the movement and welfare of children under its care.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Permanent Secretary, FCT Women Affairs, Hajia Asmau Mukhtar, said the intervention demonstrated the administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable children and institutions responsible for their welfare.
Mukhtar said the gesture reflected the commitment of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to improving the welfare of children in the territory and urged the management of the home to ensure the buses were properly maintained and used for their intended purpose.
She also appreciated the minister for approving the refurbishment of the vehicles, describing the intervention as a practical expression of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Receiving the buses, the Administrator of the Abuja Children’s Home, Queency Patrick, expressed appreciation to the FCT Administration, describing the vehicles as timely and significant to the operations of the home.
Patrick said the buses would address the mobility difficulties that had affected the movement of the children, assuring that they would be used judiciously and maintained for their benefit.
She also commended the minister for his concern for the home and prayed for continued wisdom and strength for him in his service to the FCT and the country.
The intervention is expected to enhance transportation and support the day-to-day welfare activities of the Abuja Children’s Home, while strengthening the FCT Administration’s support for institutions caring for vulnerable children.
