President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the 13-kilometre Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to closing the infrastructure gap between Abuja’s city centre and its satellite communities.
Represented at the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday by Godswill Akpabio, the President said the road project reflects the Federal Government’s resolve to ensure equitable development across the nation’s capital.
According to him, Abuja must not remain “a city of two worlds,” where modern urban districts thrive while rural communities are left behind.
He said the newly completed road would improve connectivity, enhance agricultural productivity, reduce post-harvest losses and stimulate economic activities in the benefiting communities.
“For too long, poor road access has slowed development in our rural communities. This corridor will allow farmers to transport produce more efficiently, attract buyers and strengthen Kwali’s position as a major food-producing hub for the FCT and beyond,” he said.
President Tinubu also assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to completing infrastructure projects, stressing that abandoned projects would no longer be tolerated.
“The era of starting projects only to abandon them is over. We will fund, complete and maintain projects that improve the lives of our people,” he said.
He urged residents of Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji communities to safeguard the road and maximise its economic benefits.
The President commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for implementing the administration’s directive to extend development to area councils and rural communities.
Earlier, Wike disclosed that the project was awarded in November 2025 and completed in less than 12 months, describing the feat as evidence of the administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure on schedule.
He attributed the timely completion to President Tinubu’s directive on decentralised development and a community-driven approach to project selection.
According to the minister, extensive stakeholder engagements were held across the FCT’s area councils to ensure projects reflected the priorities of local communities.
Wike also praised the traditional rulers in Kwali Area Council for their cooperation, noting that their support contributed significantly to the successful execution of the project.
He further commended the contractor, Zeberced Limited, for delivering quality work, including drainage systems, bridges and street lighting, within the stipulated timeframe.
The Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road is expected to improve transportation, boost agricultural activities and support socio-economic development in Kwali Area Council and adjoining communities.
