Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, on Monday attended the inauguration of the campaign office of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde in Abuja.
The campaign office was inaugurated in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, as political activities and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify.
Obi’s presence at the event has further fueled discussions about possible political alignments among opposition figures ahead of the elections.
Makinde, who is also positioning himself for the 2027 presidential contest, is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.
The inauguration was attended by prominent political figures, including the National Leader of the APM and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
Speaking at the event, Mohammed warned Nigerians against underrating the APM and its presidential candidate, saying the party was prepared to offer an alternative political direction for the country.
“Whoever disregards us is at his own peril. We are here to reset Nigeria and we are bringing in one of the best human capitals that Nigeria has ever produced at the sub-national and national level, that is Makinde,” he said.
Footage from the inauguration showed Obi seated beside Mohammed during the event.
Obi’s attendance comes against the backdrop of ongoing efforts by opposition parties and political figures to build a formidable platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
On April 25, 2026, opposition political parties and prominent figures gathered in Ibadan, where they made what appeared to be a significant commitment towards working together and potentially presenting a common presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The appearance of Obi at Makinde’s campaign office inauguration is therefore expected to attract further attention as discussions over opposition cooperation, alliances and the 2027 presidential race continue.
