The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has condemned the actions of some anti-government protesters, demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of IPOB.
Spark News learned that in the early hours of Monday, 20th October, 2025, protesters numbering over 50 invaded the entrance of the Corps National Headquarters in Abuja.
Reacting to the incident, the NSCDC National Spokesman, Chief Superintendent Afolabi Babawale, in a statement condemned the protesters’ invasion of the Corps entrance, chanting different protest songs.
According to him, the NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, had earlier sent a red alert, warning protesters to stay away from the Corps Commands and Formations, as well as its operations, to protect critical national assets and infrastructure in its domains.
“Our respective Formations and Commands have been alerted to upscale security in the protection of the nation’s critical infrastructure in order to avert any form of vandalism by hoodlums and unscrupulous elements who could hijack the protest.
“Intelligence, undercover, and uniform personnel were also deployed across the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to ensure the security of lives and property, as some defiant individuals might turn out for the protest, which has already been barred by court,” the spokesperson said.
While reiterating the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding all critical national assets and infrastructure, he warned that the NSCDC will not succumb to any form of threats, disruption of peace, vandalism of government utilities, activities of economic saboteurs in the oil or mining sectors, attacks on its operatives, or destruction of property.
The Corps reaffirmed that as much as the civil populace reserves the right to meaningful gathering and freedom of association, the need to exercise caution and restraint is fundamental, especially where a court bars any reasonable citizen from such gathering.
Babawale urged stakeholders to collaborate with the Corps to ensure the security of the national assets and infrastructure, noting that culpable suspects arrested would face the full wrath of the law.
