In a bid to strengthen legal education infrastructure in Nigeria, the Federal Government has commenced the construction of over 600-bed hostels for male and female students at the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja.
The groundbreaking ceremony was performed on Monday, 20th October, 2025, by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), in the company of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, and other government dignitaries.
Speaking during the ceremony, Fagbemi expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the FCT Minister for their unwavering support of the judicial sector, emphasizing that with the new development, more law graduates will have the opportunity to be accommodated and trained effectively.
“Our president today has intervened directly in projects that have lasting impact. We’ve provided utility vehicles, staff quarters, and now hostels for students. With this new development, more law graduates will have the opportunity to be accommodated and trained effectively,” he said.
In his remarks, Wike commended Fagbemi for his foresight and genuine interest in advancing the structures that sustain the legal profession.
He described the project as a promise made and fulfilled by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that it demonstrates the president’s sincerity and practical approach to leadership.
While announcing the president’s approval for construction of a new auditorium for the Law School, following the recent completion of an earlier one, the minister stated, “I was privileged to be with Mr. President last night, and I told him about this, and he said, ‘Go back; make sure another auditorium is built.’”
Earlier, the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Isa Chiroma (SAN), emphasized that the provision of the hostels will go a long way in helping the Nigerian Law School in fulfilling its mandate.
“On behalf of the Council of Legal Education, Nigerian Law School, management, staff, and students, I respectfully thank His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving this project.
“Your Excellency, the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to many of us who are familiar with your antecedents, it is history that is repeating itself. You have done more in the past,” the DG said.
Abuja Times reports that the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud; the Chairman of the Council of Legal Education, Emeka Ngige; and the Acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Richard Dauda, were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.
