The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging sports as a platform for national unity, inclusion and social development, following a courtesy visit by the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) in Abuja.
Speaking during the meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters, Tunji-Ojo said partnerships with credible organisations such as LGAN are vital to advancing broader governance objectives, particularly in fostering cohesion and empowering citizens through constructive engagement.

He noted that the Ministry’s core responsibilities—ranging from internal security to citizenship integrity and institutional efficiency—are strengthened through collaboration with stakeholders who contribute positively to national development.
The Minister commended LGAN for its longstanding efforts in promoting golf among women, describing the association as a key driver of discipline, leadership and international representation for Nigeria.
Tunji-Ojo also highlighted ongoing reforms across agencies under the Ministry, including improvements in passport administration and the deployment of modern e-gate systems at international airports.
According to him, the initiatives are designed to enhance service delivery, streamline processes and restore public confidence.
Earlier, LGAN President, Lami Onayi Ahmed, expressed appreciation to the Minister for hosting the delegation, noting that the association remains committed to expanding opportunities for women in golf and promoting capacity building and global exposure.
She described LGAN as the umbrella body for women golfers in Nigeria, dedicated to increasing participation and providing platforms for development within the sport.
The delegation also commended the Minister’s reform-driven leadership, particularly efforts to modernise operations within the Ministry in line with global standards.
In his response, Tunji-Ojo assured the association of continued government support for initiatives that empower women and promote sports development nationwide.
He urged members to remain ambassadors of Nigeria, using sports as a vehicle for unity, national pride and socio-economic advancement.
The visit ended with both parties expressing commitment to sustained collaboration in pursuit of shared national goals.
