…urges FG to urgently rescue victims
The House of Representatives Minority Caucus has strongly condemned the recent abduction of students and staff members of a Catholic school in Niger State, describing it as an ugly development that should be checkmated immediately.
This was contained in a statement on Saturday jointly signed by Rep. O.K Chinda, Minority Leader; Rt. Hon. (Dr) Ali Isa J.C, Minority Whip; Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki, Deputy Minority Leader and Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi, Deputy Minority Whip
The caucus apparently disturbed stated that the security operatives in the country should go the extra mile to make sure they are rescued from their assailants.
The statement read, “We recall with deep pains in our hearts how suspected terrorists, in the early hours of Friday, 21st November, stormed St. Mary’s School Papiri in the Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, where they abducted several students and workers.
“This unfortunate development has been confirmed by the Niger State Government and the Catholic Diocese of Kotangora, which makes it shocking and highly disturbing.
“These brazen actions of criminality are causing global embarrassment to Nigeria and must be stopped.
“Security operatives must think outside the box to restore the dignity of our nation and confidence of the people. Efforts should be intensified in the ongoing search for the missing students and staff of the school as we fervently pray for a rancour free rescue mission.
“The federal government should go on a massive recruitment of security operatives across board and take decisive steps, including external collaboration, to ensure the safety of the lives of the Nigerian people.
The Caucus reminded the Executive that the main purpose of government is the security and welfare of the people as enshrined in Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution, and the government is failing in these all important responsibilities.
The caucus expressed its sympathy to the family of the victims while praying for the safe return of the abductees to their respective families.
