The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has issued a final warning to ground rent defaulters in the FCT, stating that there will be no more extensions on the payment deadline.
Speaking to journalists on November 24, 2025, after inspecting infrastructure projects in Wuse and Lifecamp, Wike emphasized that the two-week grace period and presidential intervention granted months ago have expired.
“If you have not paid, we will seal up the premises and the property becomes the property of the FCT Administration,” he declared.
Wike lamented that many Nigerians complain but fail to comply with rules, noting, “It’s unfortunate that most Nigerians who complain don’t want to abide by the rules.”
The FCT Administration had previously published deadline extensions, but Wike stressed this is the last opportunity for defaulters to settle their dues.
The minister highlighted progress on key projects, including the Transit Way N2 (expected completion by June 2026) and Arterial Road N5 (completion by January 2026), assuring adequate funding for the latter in the 2025 budget.
He also noted that the procurement process for Abuja’s bus terminals is ongoing, with operations expected to launch by year-end.
The FCTA had earlier targeted November 26, 2025, for enforcement actions against defaulters, which may include sealing properties.
