Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that major infrastructure projects executed across Abuja are ready for commissioning, describing them as clear evidence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians.
Speaking on Thursday after inspecting several completed projects across the Federal Capital Territory, Wike said governance must be measured by tangible results that improve the lives of citizens.
“Governance is about delivering results, and these projects are clear evidence of President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians. All the projects we inspected are 100 per cent ready for commissioning,” the minister stated.
The projects inspected include the Jahi-Gwarinpa Interchange, the Airport Expressway to Kuje Road, the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road, the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) main carriageways, and the aesthetic redesign of the Abuja City Gate.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality of work delivered by contractors, noting that the projects would significantly improve transportation, connectivity and economic activities across the territory.
According to him, the Airport Road-Kuje Road and the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road have already transformed movement within the FCT by drastically reducing travel time between the city centre and satellite towns.
“You can now drive from the city to Kuje in less than 25 minutes. This is what governance should be about—making life easier for the people and ensuring that development reaches every part of the territory,” he said.
The minister also praised the transformation of the Abuja City Gate, describing it as a landmark project that reinforces Abuja’s status as a modern and world-class capital city.
“We are very happy, particularly with the City Gate. Anyone coming into Abuja will immediately appreciate the beauty and identity of the capital city. It is a landmark project that showcases the ongoing transformation of the FCT,” he added.
Wike disclosed that the commissioning exercise, scheduled to commence next week as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration, would feature several completed projects across the FCT.
He explained that while President Tinubu would personally commission some of the projects, other senior government officials would represent him at various inauguration ceremonies.
“It is a comprehensive programme and Mr. President may not be able to personally commission all the projects. The Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the First Lady and other senior officials will participate in the exercise,” he said.
The minister further revealed that the FCT Administration would also flag off additional road projects, including the Tunga Madaki-Zuba Road and other strategic routes being undertaken by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
He called on the media to highlight the developmental strides recorded in the FCT, stressing that the ongoing infrastructure revolution demonstrates the administration’s determination to modernise Abuja and improve the quality of life for residents.
“You have seen the transformation yourselves. The media should help tell the story of what is happening in Abuja. These projects are changing both the city centre and the satellite towns, and residents are already beginning to feel the impact,” Wike stated.
He commended contractors for adhering to project timelines and maintaining quality standards, expressing confidence that the completed projects would further stimulate economic growth and enhance service delivery across the Federal Capital Territory.
