The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Secretariat, in partnership with the Abuja Mega Lions Club, has commissioned an upgraded Digital Library at the Abuja City Library in Wuse Zone 4, marking a significant step toward expanding access to technology-driven learning and research resources in the nation’s capital.
The upgraded facility features renovated learning spaces, enhanced electronic resources, a one-year internet subscription, and newly installed bookshelves designed to create a more conducive environment for education, innovation, and lifelong learning.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the FCT Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, described the project as a major milestone in efforts to improve access to quality education and knowledge resources for residents of the FCT.
According to him, the digital library will promote reading culture, strengthen research activities, and provide students and other users with access to modern learning tools.
Dr. Hayyo commended the Abuja Mega Lions Club District, led by Dr. Charles Bassey, for supporting the initiative, noting that the intervention demonstrates a strong commitment to educational advancement and community development.
He stated that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its focus on human capital development, digital inclusion, youth empowerment, and improved access to quality education.
The Mandate Secretary also highlighted the efforts of the FCT Administration under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike and Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud in creating an enabling environment for learning across the territory.
Representing the District Governor of Lions International, Vice District Governor, Lion Pastor Ezekiel Umoh, applauded the Education Secretariat for facilitating the swift approval and implementation of the project.
He described the collaboration between the Lions Club and the FCT Education Secretariat as a model partnership capable of driving meaningful educational and social development.
In her remarks, Director of the FCT Education Resource Centre, Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, said the upgraded facility goes beyond the provision of technology, serving as a gateway to knowledge, innovation, research, and continuous learning.
She noted that the project supports the FCT Administration’s vision of building a modern, inclusive, and technology-driven education system that meets the demands of the 21st century.
Dr. Abdulrahim reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to sustaining the partnership and ensuring that learners, educators, researchers, and members of the public maximize the opportunities offered by the facility.
The newly upgraded Digital Library is now open to the public and is expected to significantly improve access to digital educational resources, online learning platforms, and research materials for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
