The newly inaugurated chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, has revealed why Governor Peter Mbah is keen on joining the ruling party.
Spark News reports that the speculations are making the rounds on the Internet and in some sessions of the media that Governor Mbah, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is set to join APC.
Dr. Nwoye, who took oath of office on Friday, 10th October 2025, at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, confirmed the speculations but explained the rationale behind the governor’s planned defection.
Addressing newsmen after taking the oath of office, Dr. Nwoye explained that the governor’s defection will ensure that the Renewable Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu comes to Enugu State.
The caretaker committee chairman said for the past 10 years, Enugu State has remained in opposition, declaring that “But all that will change on Tuesday, the 14th of October, 2025, when the governor will be declaring for APC.”
Continuing, Dr. Nwoye stated, “The governor is not coming alone; he is coming in with 261 councillors. They’ll be declaring for the government. They’ll be coming in with the 24 members of the House of Assembly. They’ll be coming in with members of the National Assembly.”
He said the governor’s defection would result in merging the Transformative Agenda of Peter Mbah and the Renewable Agenda of His Excellency President Tinubu.
“So, what we’ll be seeing now is that in Enugu State the Transformative Agenda of the government of Peter Mbah is going to be merged. There’ll be a merger between the Transformative Agenda of the government of Peter Mbah and the Renewable Agenda of His Excellency President Tinubu,” he emphasized.
Dr. Ben Nwoye was appointed the chairman of the APC caretaker committee for Enugu State after the state executive was dissolved by the party’s National Working Committee on Thursday.
The Dr. Ben Nwoye-led committee is expected to reconcile the warring factions and expand the party in terms of membership.
