The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi has directed that all ongoing federal road projects across the country must prominently display signboards bearing the name and image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at intervals of every 10 kilometres.
The directive was issued during an inspection tour of the Mararaba–Keffi Expressway, currently under construction, where the Minister addressed officials from the Directorate-General as well as representatives of the Ministry of Information.
According to the Minister, no completion certificate should be issued for any federal road project that fails to comply with the directive.
He stressed that contractors are required to ensure the installation of the prescribed signboards and to escalate any operational challenges through the appropriate channels, up to the office of the Permanent SeSecretary.
Umahi further instructed that clear photographs of the project signboards—captured from both the front and the back—must be attached to all submissions seeking certification of completed works.
Explaining the rationale behind the initiative, the Minister said it is aimed at increasing public awareness of the scale and spread of infrastructure development being undertaken by the Federal Government under President Tinubu’s administration.
“Many Nigerians are not fully aware of who is responsible for these projects because of their sheer volume and nationwide spread,” he said.
“Even within states and townships, federal roads are sometimes mistaken for state projects. It is important that Nigerians know and appreciate that these works are being executed by Mr. President.”
The Minister also directed the Director of Information in the Ministry of Works to ensure strict and full implementation of the directive across all federal road projects nationwide.
