Umahi Orders Nationwide Compilation of FG Infrastructure Projects for 2027 APC Campaign

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed the infrastructure directorate of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to compile projects executed by the Federal Ministry of Works and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) across the country.

Umahi, who is the Deputy Director-General of Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation of the campaign council, gave the directive during the inauguration of members of his office in Abuja on Thursday.

He said the exercise would provide a comprehensive overview of infrastructure investments and the developmental strides of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration across the six geopolitical zones.

The Minister charged Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement for the six geopolitical zones, appointed as zonal coordinators, alongside other members of the directorate and its secretary, to work together in identifying and documenting relevant projects in their respective areas.

Umahi explained that the directorate was established to identify, document, compile and publicise federal infrastructure projects, noting that its responsibilities should extend beyond the Federal Ministry of Works to capture initiatives undertaken by other MDAs.

He said the broader approach would ensure that infrastructure development across the country was adequately documented and communicated to Nigerians.

The Minister also clarified that existing publicity activities by the Federal Ministry of Works and the Senior Special Assistants would continue, while the directorate would provide an expanded framework for coordinating information on infrastructure projects at the subnational, zonal and national levels.

He emphasised the need for accurate documentation and effective communication to make information on government infrastructure investments accessible to the public.

Umahi described infrastructure development as a major driver of economic growth, national development and community integration.

According to him, “infrastructure investment stimulates economic activities, connects communities, creates opportunities and supports the growth of other sectors of the economy.”
On road construction, the minister highlighted the Federal Government’s adoption of continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) technology, saying it was helping to reduce dependence on imported bitumen while promoting the use of locally available resources and expertise.

He added that the technology would support local economic activities, reduce foreign exchange demand associated with imported construction materials and promote durable infrastructure delivery.

Umahi urged members of the directorate to demonstrate professionalism, diligence and a strong sense of responsibility, stressing that coordinated communication and public sensitisation were essential to effectively disseminating information on infrastructure projects.

The inauguration, according to the Federal Ministry of Works, marks a step towards strengthening infrastructure-related communication, mobilisation and public sensitisation within the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council.
