The Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance has summoned the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to appear before it on October 28, 2025, to explain why it has not complied with a directive to pay N200 million in compensation to the family of Onosereba Omhonria, a two-year-old boy killed during an NDLEA raid in Asaba, Delta State.
Onosereba’s younger brother, Eromonsele, was also injured in the incident, suffering a bullet wound to the eye that has resulted in significant vision loss.
The Senate had previously directed the NDLEA to pay the compensation and take full financial responsibility for Eromonsele’s medical treatment, preferably abroad, to restore his sight.
The committee chairman, Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, expressed concern over the NDLEA’s noncompliance and the deteriorating health condition of Eromonsele. He lamented the agency’s lack of communication with the family and stated that the committee would brief Senate President Godswill Akpabio to seek President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the matter.
The Senate is determined to ensure justice is served in this case, and the committee’s summons is a step towards holding the NDLEA accountable for its actions.
