INEC Debunks Circulating Claims of 2027 Election Schedule

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false reports suggesting that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commission clarified that no timetable has been published, describing the circulating information as misleading and not originating from INEC.

The electoral body emphasized that it operates strictly within the confines of the law, noting that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 mandates the Commission to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date fixed for a general election. According to INEC, any timetable or schedule released outside this legal framework cannot be attributed to the Commission.

INEC assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election would be released in due course and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022.

The Commission added that when the timetable is eventually released, it will be communicated through its established and verified channels to ensure authenticity and public confidence.

INEC also urged the media and the general public to disregard unverified reports and to rely solely on information from the Commission’s official platforms for accurate and authoritative updates on the electoral process.

The statement was signed by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Adedayo Oketola, and dated January 2, 2026.
