G-100, Minority Caucus Forge Alliance to Unite Opposition Ahead of 2027

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives and the G-100 have resolved to work together to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and mobilise opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The resolution was reached during a meeting between the Minority Caucus and members of the G-100, on Tuesday at the National Assembly complex, where both groups agreed to form an alliance and jointly play an active role in the country’s democratic process.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Hon. Fred Agbedi has said the meeting marked the “consummation of the alliance partnership” between the G-100 and the Minority Caucus.

Hon. Agbedi called on opposition stakeholders, particularly leaders of political parties and presidential candidates, to set aside their differences and work together to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, Nigerians are currently facing severe economic and social hardship, making it necessary for opposition voices to unite and provide an alternative.

“Nigerians are seriously in pain. Nigerians are wailing. Nigerians are so frustrated, and there is no reason why, as opposition voices, we should not stand up for Nigerians and bring succour to them,” he said.

He urged opposition politicians across party lines to prioritise unity, stressing that the opposition could only effectively challenge the APC in 2027 through collective action.

“We have also used this opportunity to decide that we call on all members of the opposition, no matter the party you belong to, no matter your ambition, that there is strength in unity,” he said.

The group also reaffirmed plans for an opposition summit scheduled for August 31, where, according to him, further details on how opposition parties and stakeholders would work together ahead of the 2027 elections would be unveiled.

He assured Nigerians that the opposition would remain committed to their interests, saying the meeting was successful and represented another step towards building a united opposition front.
