The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has successfully concluded its 31-day programme of project flag-offs and commissioning ceremonies organised to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja.
The month-long exercise culminated in a gala night celebrating what officials described as one of the most ambitious infrastructure delivery campaigns in the history of the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Engr. Dr. Peer Lubasch, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving what he described as an unprecedented infrastructure transformation across Abuja.
Lubasch said the completed projects, which include roads, bridges and public facilities, have significantly improved transportation, enhanced urban development and strengthened service delivery for residents of the FCT.
He noted that the extensive infrastructure investments have improved the quality of life for residents while stimulating economic activities across the nation’s capital.
According to him, President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda has placed infrastructure development at the centre of national growth, with visible results reflected in the projects delivered across the FCT.
He also praised Wike for accelerating Abuja’s development through the completion of previously abandoned projects and the execution of new landmark initiatives.
Reflecting on Abuja’s evolution over the past five decades, Lubasch observed that the city has grown from undeveloped land into one of Africa’s best-planned capital cities, adding that the recent pace of infrastructure delivery has restored confidence in the Territory’s development.
He described the gala as more than a celebration of completed projects, saying it recognised the collective efforts of government institutions, engineers, construction professionals, artisans and residents who have contributed to Abuja’s growth.
The Julius Berger Managing Director reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government and the FCT Administration in delivering modern infrastructure, urban renewal and sustainable development projects.
He also acknowledged the contributions of other construction firms, consultants, engineers and suppliers involved in the Abuja@50 infrastructure programme, describing the achievements as a collective success for Nigeria’s construction industry.
Lubasch stressed that Abuja’s development remains an ongoing journey that will require sustained collaboration, innovation and visionary leadership to meet the needs of future generations.
