The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Administration to complete the Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa road projects before the end of 2026.
Wike gave the assurance on Monday after inspecting the ongoing construction works on the two strategic road projects, barely a week after the inauguration and flag-off of 31 infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking with journalists after the inspection, the Minister said the administration remains focused on delivering all its infrastructure commitments, stressing that there would be no slowdown in project execution.
According to him, although many expected the administration to take a break after the recent commissioning exercise, work would continue until every promised project is delivered.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace of work on the Apo-Karshi road, Wike noted that the project, originally awarded in 2010, had suffered years of delays before the current administration revived it.
He attributed the progress recorded on the project to the support of President Bola Tinubu, adding that the contractor, SCC, had commenced the installation of streetlights along the corridor.
The Minister commended the contractor for the quality of work and praised host communities for their cooperation and peaceful disposition throughout the construction period.
During the inspection of the Bwari-Kubwa (Chikakore) road project, Wike reiterated his earlier pledge that the road would be commissioned before the end of the year, insisting that contractors must adhere strictly to agreed timelines.
While acknowledging the difficult terrain being encountered on the project, he assured contractors that the FCT Administration would continue to provide the necessary funding to ensure uninterrupted progress, particularly before the peak of the dry season.
Wike disclosed that inspections of ongoing projects would continue to ensure contractors maintain momentum and deliver between eight and ten major projects scheduled for completion before January.
He said the administration remained determined to sustain public confidence by delivering quality infrastructure within stipulated timelines.
The Minister also expressed concern over the growing trend of illegal street racing on newly constructed roads within the FCT, warning that such activities pose serious risks to residents.
He directed the relevant traffic authorities to take immediate steps to curb high-speed racing in residential areas, stressing that while motorists should enjoy improved road infrastructure, public safety must never be compromised.
