The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the forthcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will demonstrate the party’s unity, democratic maturity, and commitment to national development.
Speaking on Thursday in Abuja at a world media briefing held at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, Idris described the convention as a critical milestone in the party’s evolution.
The 8th National Convention is scheduled to hold from March 27 to 28, 2026, at Eagle Square.
He said the gathering would bring together delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for leadership elections, policy deliberations, and strategic planning for the party’s next phase.
“The convention is not just a routine exercise, but a moment of reflection, consolidation, and planning.
“It represents our collective resolve to strengthen democratic values and align party processes with national development priorities,” Idris said.
The minister noted that the convention, themed “Unity in Progress – Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” underscores the APC’s commitment to cohesion and continuity, while aligning with the broader governance vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, the party has sustained its position as a leading political force by promoting inclusiveness, accountability, and effective internal governance.
He added that the APC has consistently managed leadership transitions in an orderly manner, reflecting its growing institutional strength.
Idris also assured that adequate arrangements had been concluded to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible convention, with committees finalising operational frameworks for efficient coordination.
He expressed confidence that the event would meet global democratic standards, showcasing discipline, organisation, and respect for due process.
The minister further commended President Tinubu for his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and his role in strengthening the APC, noting that the party remains committed to building a united and progressive nation.
Other dignitaries at the briefing included the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Vice Chairman of the Central Committee, Pius Ayim; Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare; and Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, among others.
