The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has urged media organisations and public institutions to ensure accuracy when referring to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s official title, following repeated errors in some publications.
This was contained in a statement personally signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. The Office expressed concern over what it described as avoidable mistakes in the official appellation of the President.
Akume clarified that the correct title is: His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He called on journalists and organisations to verify official titles before publication to prevent embarrassing lapses.
“For the record, the correct and official appellation is as stated.
“Media organisations and other bodies are advised to confirm such details through official channels before publication,” he said.
The SGF noted that verification can be made through the office’s official social media handles on Facebook, Instagram and X, as well as via its official email address.
Abuja Times reports that the clarification followed an error observed in the naming and appellation of the President in a publication by a national daily on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
