The people of Ebonyi State have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as their sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election, citing what they described as unprecedented federal infrastructure investments and political inclusion under his administration.
The endorsement was made on Monday at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki during a large gathering attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, stakeholders, and party supporters from across the state.
This was contained in a statement on Tuesday, by Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Minister.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Works, David Umahi, said the decision reflected the appreciation of Ebonyi people for the developmental projects being executed by the Federal Government in the state and across the South-East.
According to Umahi, President Tinubu’s administration has brought significant infrastructure projects to the region, including major road and bridge developments aimed at improving connectivity and economic activities.
“We are not going to make another mistake. The past belongs to accident of history,” Umahi said, insisting that Ebonyi people would continue to support a leader who has demonstrated commitment to the development of the state and the region.
The minister highlighted the ongoing Trans-Sahara corridor project traversing parts of Ebonyi State, valued at about N445 billion, describing it as one of the flagship legacy projects of the Tinubu administration.
He also pointed to the dualisation of the Enugu-Abakaliki Road and the Afikpo-Uturu-Okigwe Road, saying the projects would enhance transportation, trade, and regional integration.
Umahi further cited key bridge projects linking communities within the South-East and neighbouring states, arguing that the region is receiving greater federal attention than in previous administrations.
Reflecting on his tenure as deputy governor and governor of Ebonyi State, the minister said the current administration had increased federal appointments and development projects in the state, a development he described as evidence of the President’s commitment to inclusiveness.
Governor Francis Nwifuru said the endorsement followed a collective assessment of President Tinubu’s performance, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, economic reforms, and governance.
He maintained that the South-East had benefited from the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda and that supporting the President’s re-election bid was a recognition of those gains.
The governor also received a unanimous endorsement from stakeholders for a second term in office.
Supporters cited ongoing infrastructure projects, education initiatives, empowerment programmes, and governance reforms as reasons for backing his continuation in office.
Joining the endorsement, Umahi formally declared support for both President Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid and Governor Nwifuru’s second-term aspiration.
The event attracted several high-profile political figures, including Hope Uzodimma, Chukwuma Soludo, members of the National Assembly, former ministers, party leaders, and other stakeholders from within and outside the South-East.
The gathering underscored growing political support for President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
