Omoyele Sowore has been granted bail in the sum of ₦200 million by the Federal High Court in the alleged cybercrime case instituted against him.
Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, Mohammed Umar ordered the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) to provide two sureties to perfect his bail conditions.
The court ruled that one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community, while the second must own landed property in Abuja. Justice Umar also directed that both sureties be verified by the prosecution.
As part of the bail conditions, the judge ordered Sowore to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the conclusion of the trial.
Following the ruling, the court released Sowore into the custody of his legal team and adjourned proceedings until July 6, when the defence is expected to open its case.
