Stakeholders in Nigeria’s electricity sector on Wednesday convened in Abuja to examine the implementation of the Electricity Act 2023 and explore strategies for developing sustainable electricity markets across the country.
The discussions took place at the National Workshop on the Electricity Act 2023, held at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, and organised by the Office of the Vice President in collaboration with AllStates Management Partners Solutions Limited.
The two-day workshop focused on the reforms introduced by the Act, particularly the emergence of a multi-level electricity market and the opportunities it presents for states to establish their own electricity markets.
Participants examined how the new framework could encourage investment, promote sustainable electricity market development and improve power supply across Nigeria.
The workshop also provided a platform for industry experts and stakeholders to discuss the practical implications of the reforms, assess implementation challenges and identify approaches to strengthening electricity markets at different levels of government.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) participated in the workshop through a delegation led by its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, FNSE.
Other members of the delegation included the Company Secretary and General Manager, Legal, Barr. Bashir Ahmed, and the Assistant General Manager, Legal, Hajiya Maryam Gabdo Malabu.
Abuja Times reports that the workshop forms part of ongoing engagements among stakeholders to examine the Electricity Act 2023 and its implications for the structure, investment prospects and development of Nigeria’s electricity industry.
