Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has threatened to prevent former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi from campaigning in Rivers State if he continues making comments against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike, who criticised Amaechi over his reported call on Nigerians not to vote for Tinubu in 2027 while fielding questions from journalists on Friday, challenged the former Minister of Transportation to account for several projects and financial transactions during his tenure as governor of Rivers State.

Few days ago, Amaechi, vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has described President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies as “reckless”, saying only a madman would re-elect him in the 2027 elections.

Speaking at the ADC town hall meeting in Edo State on Thursday, Amaechi urged Nigerians to reject Tinubu at the polls, saying his administration’s policies had inflicted hardship on citizens.

The FCT Minister questioned the whereabouts of $39 million reportedly paid for a hospital project named after Justice Karibi-Whyte, which he alleged was never constructed.

He also raised questions about a $10 million fumigation contract reportedly awarded to a Cuban company to eliminate mosquitoes in Rivers State, describing the expenditure as a waste of public funds.

Wike further questioned the whereabouts of $308 million allegedly realised from the sale of state-owned gas turbines during Amaechi’s administration.

The minister also criticised the abandoned N68 billion monorail project in Port Harcourt, describing it as a failed investment that required explanations.

Wike’s remarks followed Amaechi’s reported criticism of Tinubu and his call for Nigerians to reject the President at the 2027 polls.

The FCT minister warned that Amaechi could face restrictions on his campaign activities in Rivers State if he persisted with his comments.

The allegations concerning the projects and financial transactions could not be independently established from the information provided. Amaechi’s response to the claims was also not included.
