… calls for increased security measures

…solicits for enhanced medical care for victims

The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has outrightly condemned the recent bomb attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, which led to the gruesome deaths of 23 people, and 108 others who sustained varying degrees of injuries.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by all the minority caucus leaders, Rep Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, leader, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J.C
Minority Whip
Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki
Deputy Minority Leader
Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi
Deputy Minority Whip stating that:

“The Caucus is very sad and pained that the triple explosions carried out by suspected suicide bombers at the Main Market, Gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover, happened simultaneously at a time when residents were going about their lawful, and legitimate businesses.

“The Caucus is even more worried that these outlawed felons and despicable renegades carried out their heinous and horrendous attacks during the Holy Month of Ramadan and the Lenten Period which clearly evidenced their disrespect for Islam and Christianity; the two major religions in the country.

“While the Caucus sympathizes with the families of the victims, the government and people of Borno State, we call on the Federal Government to immediately direct the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other relevant agencies to provide enhanced medical and humanitarian services to the victims.

The Caucus leaders further explained that: “Also, we call on the Nigerian Police Force, and other related security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested, and prosecuted.

“Further to this, we charge security agencies to collaborate effectively and efficiently towards increased surveillance, and the protection of lives and properties in Maiduguri, and other parts of the state.

“As a responsible and responsive group of lawmakers, the Caucus promise to pursue legislative actions; where and when necessary towards finding realistic solutions to these negative development.
