The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has condemned the brutal killing of traditional ruler Eze Francis Igwe during a condolence visit to the family of the late monarch in Ebonyi State.
Umahi paid the visit on Wednesday to his former deputy governor, Kelechi Igwe, following the killing of the monarch at his palace in Alike, Ikwo Local Government Area.

Speaking during the visit, the minister described the incident as shocking and reflective of the troubling level of cruelty in society.
“When I heard of this unfortunate occurrence, for me it was like a dream, a very deep dream. The whole episode is strange, the level of man’s inhumanity against man. The people that did this thing are not human beings,” he said.
Umahi recalled that the late royal father maintained a close relationship with the state leadership during his tenure as governor, describing him as a wise leader who promoted unity and stability.
“He was a father to all of us. We worked very well with him during our struggles, giving us advice and ensuring that there were no squabbles between the deputy governor and governor. He was a man of wisdom, committed to God and service to humanity,” he added.
The minister prayed for divine justice against those responsible for the killing and urged the bereaved family, especially the widow of the late monarch, to remain strong in faith.
He also revealed that he had spoken with the governor of the state and commended the government’s response to the tragic development.
Responding on behalf of the family, Kelechi Igwe thanked Umahi for the visit and for standing with them during the difficult moment.
“On behalf of the family, we thank you immensely for finding time to be here. From the reservoir of our hearts, we appreciate your support,” he said.
Umahi was accompanied on the visit by members of the DUN Foundation, who joined in offering prayers and solidarity to the grieving family.
