The Federal Government has completed critical emergency road interventions and is actively advancing strategic road projects across Plateau State, under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving connectivity and fostering economic growth.
During a National Media Tour of the North Central region, the Ministry of Works showcased both completed emergency repairs and ongoing projects, including the Lafia–Shendam Road and the Babban Lamba–Sharram Road.

The tour highlights the government’s commitment to delivering key infrastructure under the leadership of Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi.
Mrs. Ayiku Pwaspo, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, commissioned the emergency projects on behalf of the Minister, emphasizing the government’s focus on timely completion of projects according to approved standards.
Technical details provided by the Federal Controller of Works, Plateau State, Engr. Jibril Shua’ibu, revealed that interventions include the reinstatement of embankment washouts of a culvert and bridge along the Shendam–Lafia Road at Kwande. The project, costing ₦824 million, was completed within months, restoring safe and uninterrupted traffic flow. Other upgrades along the Lafia–Shendam corridor include the construction of a 2.0m x 1.5m double-cell box culvert and asphalt overlay works.
Ongoing work on a 16-kilometre stretch from Lafia–Shendam Junction through Poeship to Ngotuguut towns has reached 52 percent completion, with an additional 7-kilometre section in procurement.
The project, awarded to Triacta Construction Company for ₦16 billion, is expected to be completed in 15 months.
Project Manager Nakhle Abou Yaounde reaffirmed the commitment to delivering the project on schedule.
Community representatives hailed the roads as transformative.
Pharmacist Senpet Yitnoe described the Lafia–Shendam Junction–Poeship–Ngotuguut Road as a “road to endless possibilities,” noting its impact on access to farmlands, schools, and economic activities.
The Babban Lamba–Sharram Road, a 44.625-kilometre new alignment, is also underway. Once completed, it will cut travel times from nearly two hours to 20 minutes, open up markets, and enhance socio-economic opportunities.
The project includes multiple bridges, drainage systems, and a 7.3-metre carriageway with 2.75-metre shoulders on both sides.
Contractors Ric Rock Construction (Nigeria) Limited confirmed active construction across the corridor, with community support bolstering progress.
These interventions reflect the Federal Government’s wider effort to restore abandoned projects, improve national road networks, and ensure that infrastructure serves as a catalyst for development in Plateau State and beyond.
