10,700 FCTA Workers to Take CBT Promotion Exam as Commission Clears Backlog

About 10,700 workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration are expected to participate in the 2026 promotion examination scheduled to begin on Monday, October 5.

The exercise, covering 145 cadres, will be conducted through Computer-Based Testing (CBT) at the National Open University.

Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Eze, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday after the commission’s meeting to review its preparedness for the exercise.

Eze assured eligible workers that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure a smooth and transparent examination process.

He said promotions would be based strictly on merit and awarded against declared vacancies in line with public service rules and the approved organograms of the various agencies.

According to him, workers who participated in the 2025 promotion exercise held in July have already received their promotion letters, reflecting the commission’s commitment to a competitive promotion process.

The chairman said the 2026 exercise would also represent a significant step towards clearing inherited promotion backlogs, with the commission expected to return to a regular annual promotion cycle from 2027.

Eze advised eligible candidates to obtain their individual login details from the commission’s website before the examination, explaining that the details would also serve as their passwords.

He said each candidate would have 45 minutes to complete the CBT, with the system automatically loading the candidate’s profile after login, counting down the allotted time and displaying the result immediately after the examination.

The chairman urged candidates to remain calm and comply with all examination guidelines.

He also directed candidates to come with their regularisation letters and evidence of staff confirmation, adding that mobile phones would not be allowed inside the examination halls.

The commission said the arrangements were aimed at ensuring a merit-based and transparent promotion exercise for eligible FCT civil servants.
