NEDL to Reconnect Shiroro–Gwada, Shiroro–Erena Feeders After Stakeholder Talks

By Becky Momodu

Niger Electricity Distribution Limited (NEDL) has announced plans to reconnect the Shiroro–Gwada and Shiroro–Erena electricity feeders following successful stakeholder engagement facilitated by the Deputy Governor of Niger State.

The Company said the decision followed the conclusion of discussions and the development of a strategic framework designed to improve electricity service delivery, strengthen stakeholder cooperation and establish a sustainable payment arrangement.

Recall that NEDL had on Friday last week disconnected the 33kV Gwada and Erena electricity feeders linked to the 132kV Shiroro Transmission Station over the persistent accumulation of unpaid electricity bills by customers in the affected communities.

However, in a public notice Thursday 15th October, 2026, NEDL said the agreement would provide a framework for improved collaboration among stakeholders and support the sustainable delivery of electricity services to the affected communities.

“Niger Electricity Distribution Limited (NEDL) is pleased to inform its esteemed customers and the general public that the Shiroro–Gwada and Shiroro–Erena feeders will be reconnected following successful stakeholder engagement facilitated by the Deputy Governor of Niger State.

“The reconnection follows the conclusion of discussions and the development of a strategic framework aimed at improving electricity service delivery, strengthening stakeholder cooperation and establishing a sustainable payment arrangement going forward”, the notice read.

The Distribution Company expressed appreciation to the Deputy Governor of Niger State for facilitating the engagement, while commending all stakeholders for their cooperation and commitment to resolving the matter.

NEDL reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders and the communities it serves to promote sustainable electricity services and improve customer experience.

The planned reconnection is expected to restore electricity supply to customers served by the two feeders, following the successful conclusion of the discussions.
