The Senate has suspended its ongoing legislative recess and summoned all senators to an emergency plenary session to deliberate on pressing national issues, particularly the worsening security situation across the country.
In a notice issued by the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo, lawmakers were directed to reconvene at the Senate Chamber of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
According to the notice, the emergency sitting was convened on the directive of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to enable the upper legislative chamber to address matters requiring urgent legislative attention.
The communication indicated that discussions would centre on national security concerns and other critical issues considered to be of significant importance to the country.
The Senate expressed regret over any inconvenience the recall may cause lawmakers and urged all members to make the necessary arrangements to attend the session.
The emergency reconvening comes amid increasing concerns over security challenges in several parts of the country, which are expected to dominate deliberations during the plenary.
