Barely hours after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Philip Aduda, on Tuesday visited the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, signaling his defection to the ruling party.
Aduda’s visit, which took place shortly after his resignation became public, has further confirmed growing indications that the former lawmaker has formally aligned with the APC.
During the visit, Aduda spent about two hours in a closed-door meeting with the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, before departing the party headquarters.
Addressing journalists afterward, the former senator said his decision to join the APC was deliberate and rooted in his commitment to national development and progressive politics.
He noted that he played a significant role in mobilizing support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, adding that he was often at the forefront of resolving electoral challenges.
“In view of this, I have taken a deliberate decision to align fully with the APC and commit myself to working for the success of Mr. President. I am confident that victory in future elections will not be difficult for us,” he said.
Aduda also cited the outcome of the most recent Area Council elections in the FCT as evidence of the APC’s growing strength, noting that the party secured five out of six positions through collaboration and unity.
Looking ahead, he expressed optimism that the APC would record even greater success in the North Central region and deliver overwhelming support for President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the policies and programmes of the current administration, particularly the Renewed Hope Agenda, are attracting widespread support due to ongoing reforms in economic restructuring and national development.
“We are implementing reforms that have never been attempted before. These are bold steps that are already yielding results and inspiring confidence among citizens,” he added.
Meanwhile, Spark News Daily reports that Aduda’s resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Karu Ward.
Titled “Notice of Resignation of My Membership from the PDP,” the letter cited the lingering crisis within the party as the reason for his exit.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a member of the PDP with immediate effect due to the crisis in the party,” the letter read.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity the party gave me to serve in various elective positions in our nation. Please accept the assurances of my high esteem,” he added.
