Federal Capital Territory Minister Barr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has pledged to stop all unauthorized building projects across the FCT, following a tense confrontation on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, when Nigerian Navy officers blocked him and his team from inspecting an illegal development in Gaduwa District along Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way.
Accompanied by Director of Development Control Mukhtar Galadima and other officials, Wike attempted to access the site, only to be prevented by naval personnel allegedly acting on orders from a former Chief of Naval Staff who was developing the land without title documents or development‑control approval.
Wike condemned the military’s interference, describing it as lawlessness and an attempt to intimidate government authorities.
“The way we have carried out our job in other areas is the same way it will be done here. He will not carry out this illegal development and land grabbing simply because he was a former Chief of Naval Staff. I will not allow that,” he said.
He added that FCTA officials were chased away despite having no legal papers, building approval, or land acquisition proof.
The Minister has already spoken with the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff, who assured him of intervention. Wike reiterated that the FCT Administration will not succumb to blackmail or intimidation and will continue to enforce urban regulations impartially.
