The Federal Government has tasked the newly appointed Registrar of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), Idris Garba, to digitalize the radiography profession and intensify efforts to eliminate quackery in the sector.
The directive was given by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Adekunle Salako, during the presentation of the registrar’s appointment letter in Abuja.

Salako said digitalizing the profession was essential due to the critical role radiographers play in healthcare delivery.
According to him, a digital system would make it easier to identify radiographers practicing both within and outside the country, while also distinguishing between licensed professionals and unregistered practitioners.
He stressed the importance of enforcing professional ethics and tackling quackery in the sector.
“You must take the issue of quackery very seriously and deploy all available resources to flush it out from radiographic practice in the country,” the minister said.
Salako also commended members of the panel that conducted the selection process, describing it as rigorous and transparent.
He urged the new registrar to leverage his experience to strengthen the board and contribute to the overall growth of the health sector.
Responding, Garba, a scholar from Bayero University Kano, expressed appreciation for the appointment and pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor.
He said one of his key priorities would be the creation of a comprehensive database to track radiographers and radiography centres across the country.
“With just a click, activities of radiographers within and outside the country should be traceable,” he said, adding that the database would help regulators identify licensed practitioners and curb quackery.
Garba also promised to strengthen regional offices of the board and ensure that all centres operating radiographic equipment have qualified personnel.
He further pledged to foster collaboration between the regulatory body and professional associations to advance the profession while ensuring that only qualified and licensed radiographers are allowed to practice in Nigeria.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom, represented by the Director of Hospital Services, Adeola Adegoke, commended the minister for his leadership and commitment to due process throughout the appointment process.
