…ICPC rakes in $919m, recovered funds to be used for citizens – NOA DG
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu has disclosed that the government is ensuring every money recovered from the anti-corruption crusade will be used for the Nigerian citizens.
Specifically, he said such monies will be used for funding education, credit, and health reforms rather than being allowed to lie idle.
The NOA boss stated this while giving an update on the anti-corruption and transparency efforts of the country during the October edition of the Monthly Joint Security Press Briefing at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
He noted that the initiative reflects Renewed Hope Accountability – turning recovery into public good.
Giving some notable achievements by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), in the past two years under the leadership of its chairman, Ola Olukoyede, the NOA DG said a total of ₦566.3 billion + $411.6 million has been recovered across 14 currencies.
While disclosing that 1,502 properties have been forfeited within the same year, Mallam Issa-Onilu said part of the recovered funds (₦100 billion) has been reinvested in the Students Loan Scheme and Consumer Credit Scheme.
He stated that in the month under review, ICPC has received 44 petitions, concluded 15 investigations, filed 5 new cases and secured 2 convictions.
He disclosed that ₦840 million + $919,000 was recovered, while 35 public health projects tracked and 9 Anti-Corruption Units inaugurated in October 2025.
On the regulatory and enforcement, the DG highlighted that the NAFDAC seized over 70 containers of counterfeit and unsafe goods and shut down illegal warehouses in Lagos and Onitsha.
“NDLEA dismantled 14 drug syndicates, arrested 1,378 suspects, and secured 251 convictions.
“NIS rescued 76 victims of human trafficking and processed 15,000 visa applications under the new digital system.
“FRSC recorded a 12% drop in fatal crashes following intensified “Ember Months” campaigns.
“NCoS expanded inmate rehabilitation and mental-health outreach nationwide”, he disclosed.
