The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has joined Nigerians in commemorating the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, honouring the courage and sacrifices of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces who gave their lives in defence of the nation.
In a statement signed by the Minority Leader, Rep. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, the caucus said the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes must never be forgotten, describing their service as central to the preservation of the country’s sovereignty, unity and democratic ideals.
According to the caucus, Armed Forces Remembrance Day provides a solemn moment for national reflection and gratitude to gallant men and women, past and present, who paid the ultimate price in service to the country, often in the face of grave danger and personal loss.
The lawmakers also paid tribute to wounded soldiers and military veterans whose sacrifices extend beyond the battlefield, as well as the families of fallen personnel who continue to bear the burden of loss with strength and dignity. The caucus described their resilience as a true symbol of national service, noting that Nigeria owes them a lasting debt of gratitude.
Reaffirming its legislative commitment, the Minority Caucus pledged sustained advocacy for improved welfare for serving personnel, veterans and their families. This, it said, includes better welfare packages, adequate equipment, mental health support, timely payment of pensions and the full implementation of all statutory entitlements due to members of the Armed Forces.
Against the backdrop of ongoing security challenges across the country, the caucus called for renewed national unity, responsible leadership and concrete actions to support the Armed Forces. It stressed that beyond words, Nigeria must pursue policies that strengthen morale, accountability and professionalism within the security sector.
The statement concluded with prayers for the peaceful repose of fallen heroes, urging Nigerians to continue drawing inspiration from their sacrifices in the collective pursuit of a safer, more just and united nation.
