…Enrols 33,000 new beneficiaries
The FCT Health and Environment Secretariat has surpassed its annual ministerial deliverables enrollment target of 25,000 residents per annum under the Renewed Hope Agenda, with the FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) enrolling over 33,000 new vulnerable beneficiaries.
This achievement is attributed to the scheme’s collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), which revalidated and enrolled 69,512 beneficiaries with valid NINs as of November 2025.
Speaking at the Free Medical Outreach and Market sensitization event in commemoration of the 2025 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day, Permanent Secretary Dr. Baba-Gana Adam commended the FHIS for its dedication to increasing and revalidating the numbers of enrollees.
He emphasized that good health is the foundation of productivity and well-being, and encouraged traders, shop owners, artisans, and customers to take full advantage of the FCT Health Insurance Scheme.
The event featured free screening for diabetes and hypertension, treatment of minor ailments, early detection for non-communicable diseases, and on-the-spot sensitisation and enrolment for uninsured residents. Acting Director of FHIS, Dr. Salamatu Belgore, stressed the need for more residents to adopt health insurance as a buffer against rising medical expenses, saying “Health insurance is not a luxury; it is a shield against financial shock.”
The FCT Administration aims to ensure that every resident has reliable access to affordable and quality healthcare, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3.8).
