The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a three-hour power interruption in parts of Abuja on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to enable engineers carry out urgent maintenance at the Gwagwalada Transmission Substation.
According to a notice signed by TCN management, the maintenance exercise will take place between 10am and 1pm at the 330/132kV Gwagwalada Transmission Substation.
TCN said its maintenance crew would work on the 33kV, 6MVA earthing reactor at the substation as part of efforts to ensure the reliability and safety of the transmission network.
The Company explained that the exercise would affect the ability of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to off-take electricity to customers in several parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
Areas expected to experience the power interruption include Aso Villa, Asokoro, African Medical Centre, Kabusa, EFAB Estate, Apo Resettlement, Zone E Extension, Trademoore and adjoining areas.
The power outage is expected to last for approximately three hours, from 10am to 1pm, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
TCN apologised to electricity customers in the affected areas for the inconvenience caused by the maintenance exercise, stressing that the work was necessary to address an urgent maintenance requirement at the transmission substation.
