The Senator representing Taraba Central Senatorial District, Haruna Manu has appealed to the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to urgently intervene in the rehabilitation of the failed Gashaka–Sardauna federal road in Taraba State.
The Senator made the appeal on Thursday during a working visit to the Managing Director of FERMA, Chukwuemeka Agbasi, alongside Senator Babangida Hussaini.
During the meeting, Senator Manu highlighted the deteriorating condition of the federal road linking Gashaka and Sardauna Local Government Areas, stressing the urgent need for repairs on the Serti–Gembu road.
The lawmaker specifically identified the affected sections as the stretch from Mayo-Selbe in Gashaka Local Government Area to Nguroje in Sardauna Local Government Area, as well as the section from Lekitaba to Gembu, which he said is on the verge of total collapse due to severe gully erosion.
According to the Senator, the road serves as a critical transportation corridor connecting two major local government areas in Taraba State and is vital for the movement of people, goods and economic activities.
Responding to the concerns, FERMA Managing Director Engr. Agbasi assured the lawmakers that the agency would carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the affected sections to evaluate the extent of the damage and initiate the necessary restoration process.
He pledged that FERMA would undertake a formal evaluation to facilitate appropriate intervention aimed at restoring the road to a motorable condition.
