Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho is set to make a stunning return to professional club football after signing with Italian Serie C side Ravenna FC at the age of 46.
The former Barcelona and AC Milan star, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of his generation, has been away from professional football since ending his playing career with Brazilian club Fluminense in 2015.
Ravenna FC confirmed that Ronaldinho will be officially presented as the club’s newest signing during a special event scheduled to take place in Miami, United States, on June 23.
The move marks a remarkable comeback for the former FIFA World Player of the Year, who will combine his playing role with his position as a shareholder in the Italian club.
Expressing his excitement over the new chapter in his career, Ronaldinho said he was eager to return to the pitch and help write a new success story for the club.
“New colours, same smile. I cannot wait to dance with the ball and write a beautiful new story with Ignazio Cipriani and the Cipriani family,” he said.
“Football has always been joyful for me, and I’m excited to bring that spirit to Ravenna. Let the magic begin!”
Ravenna FC is owned by businessman Ignazio Cipriani, who completed the takeover of the club in 2024 as part of efforts to revive its fortunes and raise its profile in Italian football.
The club’s management team also includes former AC Milan executive Ariedo Braida, who serves as vice-president.
Ronaldinho’s return is expected to generate global attention and excitement among football fans, with many eager to see whether the Brazilian legend can once again showcase the flair, creativity and skill that made him one of the sport’s most beloved figures.
The former Brazil international enjoyed an illustrious career, winning the FIFA World Cup in 2002 and claiming major honours with Barcelona, including the UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles.
His arrival at Ravenna FC is already being described as one of the most remarkable comeback stories in modern football.
