President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday commissioned the Collector Road CN2 linking Katampe and Mabushi Districts in Abuja, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure-led development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The newly completed road, which stretches from Arterial Road N16 to Arterial Road N20 and includes the Important Local Street (ILS-5), is expected to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion and stimulate economic activities in the rapidly growing districts.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning ceremony, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the project as a critical investment in the nation’s capital and a demonstration of government’s resolve to bring development closer to the people.
According to the President, the significance of the road extends beyond transportation, as it connects homes, businesses, markets and communities that previously faced mobility challenges.
He noted that residents would no longer endure prolonged periods in traffic, dusty conditions during the dry season or muddy roads during the rainy season, adding that the installation of solar-powered streetlights would improve security and help eliminate criminal hideouts along the corridor.
President Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his unwavering commitment to transforming Abuja into a befitting national capital.
“When I gave him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital city, I knew his track record. And Barrister Wike, you have not disappointed Nigerians. From water projects to judicial quarters, you did not give excuses; you delivered results. The people of the FCT call you Mr Project for a reason,” the President said.
He added that the road stands as tangible evidence that government can fulfill its promises and deliver meaningful infrastructure to citizens.
Speaking earlier, Wike described infrastructure as the foundation of development, stressing that no nation or community can achieve sustainable growth without adequate road networks and essential public facilities.
The minister explained that the CN2 road project was conceived to address a connectivity gap within the district despite the construction of adjoining roads.
According to him, the project was necessary to complete the transportation network and unlock the area’s economic potential.
Wike revealed that the road has already attracted significant private sector investments and building activities in Katampe, underscoring the direct link between infrastructure development and economic growth.
He further stated that ongoing projects across the FCT are creating jobs, stimulating economic activities and improving the quality of life of residents, expressing confidence that Abuja would witness even greater transformation before the end of President Tinubu’s first term in office.
The minister also highlighted recent interventions in underserved communities, including the commissioning of access roads in Tunga Madaki and efforts to provide potable water to satellite towns. He praised President Tinubu for ensuring that no area council is left behind in the administration’s development agenda.
While appreciating the support of the National Assembly, Wike specifically commended Hon. Mukhtar Betara for fostering cooperation that has accelerated project implementation and budget approvals.
In her remarks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, described the commissioning as another milestone in the transformation of the nation’s capital, noting that infrastructure projects such as the CN2 road improve mobility, create opportunities and enhance economic prosperity for residents.
Providing an overview of the project, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, disclosed that the contract for the construction of Collector Road CN2, also known as Emmanuel Ogala Boulevard, and ILS-5 was awarded to cgcoceania.com.ng� in November 2025 as part of the FCT Administration’s infrastructure expansion programme.
Dauda explained that the road links Arterial Road N16 (Yemi Osinbajo Way) with Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way), thereby strengthening connectivity within the Federal Capital City.
He added that the project comprises approximately 3.9 kilometres of roads, including a six-lane dual carriageway for Collector Road CN2 and a four-lane Important Local Street, alongside underground stormwater drainage systems, water distribution pipelines, sewage networks, telecommunications ducts, solar-powered streetlights, pedestrian walkways and landscaped green areas.
The commissioning marks another milestone in the FCT Administration’s ongoing efforts to modernise infrastructure and support sustainable urban development across Abuja.
