President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, effecting changes in the Federal Executive Council (FEC) with the exit of two ministers and the appointment of new officials to key portfolios.
According to a memo issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by George Akume, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, are to leave the cabinet.
Edun has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to serve as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Oyedele previously held the position of Minister of State in the same ministry.
In the housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, while Dangiwa is to hand over to the Minister of State pending further confirmation processes.
The directive mandates that all handing-over procedures be completed on or before the close of business on April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said the move is intended to enhance cohesion within the cabinet, strengthen governance synergy, and improve economic delivery to Nigerians under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the changes.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring remaining cabinet members that efforts to reinvigorate government performance will continue
