The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives extended its warmest felicitations to the Christian faithful across Nigeria as they celebrate Easter, marking the triumphant conclusion of the holy Lenten season.
This was contained in a goodwill message jointly signed by the caucus leaders, Rep Kingsley Chinda, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J.C., Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi, Deputy Minority Whip stating that:
“This sacred period, defined by sacrifice and redemption, serves as a powerful reminder of the victory of hope over despair; a message that resonates deeply in our country.
“Beyond the festivities, the Caucus emphasises that the forty days of fasting and prayer represent the spiritual foundation for moral regeneration of our country and our people.
“We urge all Nigerians to carry forward the discipline and selflessness cultivated during Lent, integrating these virtues into our daily lives to facilitate a genuine national transformation that begins with individual character and personal integrity.
The Caucus leaders further stressed that: “In these trying times, there is a pressing need for a deliberate recommitment to the core tenets of Easter: love, forgiveness, and compassion.
“As our country grapples with complex socio-political and economic hurdles, it is these enduring values that must bridge our divides, foster resilience, and inspire a collective responsibility toward building a more equitable and harmonious society.
“However, the Caucus notes with heavy hearts that the joy of the season is tempered by the persistent wave of insecurity plaguing our land.
“The renewed cycle of killings and kidnappings, particularly in the North-Central regions of Plateau and Benue, remains a grave threat to our collective peace and a stain on our national conscience that cannot be ignored.
“Consequently, we demand that the Federal Government move beyond rhetoric and implement decisive, and coordinated strategies to confront these security challenges.
“Our security agencies must be fully empowered and proactive, showing no compromise in dismantling the networks of terror that continue to displace our people and stifle our national development.
“We also call on the clergy and the laity to remain steadfast in interceding for Nigeria, seeking divine wisdom for leaders at all levels.
“At this critical crossroads, our country requires leadership characterised by clarity of purpose and courage to navigate the multi-layered crises of poverty and hardship that are currently straining the resilience of citizens.
“Finally, Easter symbolises the promise of new beginnings and the possibility of renewal. We enjoin every citizen to rise above divisive sentiments and embrace the shared ideals of unity and tolerance, ensuring that this season serves as a true catalyst for reconciliation and a renewed commitment to a prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
