The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling, accusing the electoral body of acting under pressure from a government it claims is unsettled by the party’s growing momentum.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who signed the statement issued on April 1, 2026, said INEC’s position was riddled with contradictions and inconsistent with both facts and reason.
ADC alleged that the commission’s stance reflects undue influence, claiming it has effectively taken sides with the government against the Nigerian people. The party further accused the government of attempting to weaken opposition parties in a bid to impose a one-party system.
According to the statement, the party intends to publicly address what it described as inconsistencies in INEC’s interpretation of the appellate court’s position. It added that it is currently reviewing its options and will announce its next line of action in due course.
The party also called on its members and supporters across the country to remain calm and steadfast as developments continue to unfold, expressing confidence in its growing political strength.
